Artist Statement

For me, painting is inherently autobiographical. I approach it through a psychological lens rather than direct observation, using the medium as a site for exploration and experimentation. This process allows me to investigate personal experience through the manipulation and collage of found imagery and art-historical references. The resulting compositions are layered and narrative, evoking shared emotional states and interior conflict. My self-portraits, in particular, serve as studies in recurrence, returning to themes, thoughts, and dilemmas that continue to shape my sense of self.

Artist Bio

Brandon Aguiar holds a BFA from the Art Institute of Boston. Aguiar makes figurative paintings and drawings that explore narrative through a wide variety of techniques and historical references. Utilizing duality in his paintings subject matter and approach to how to make a painting. 

Aguiar has had multiple exhibitions in the Boston and Providence area. With works in private collections located in Boston, Dallas, Atlanta and Los Angeles.

Brandon Aguiar is represented by MRKT Gallery and lives and works in Providence Rhode Island.
